MBT is a fast curing accelerator suitable for most of the common rubbers. It is very flat curing and confers on the

vulcanisates low modulus and excellent ageing properties; It is however too scorchy to use with appreciable

loading of furnace blacks. In combination with guanidine accelerators, MBT gives fast curing high-modulus

rubbers; such mixtures are often too scorchy for natural rubber compounds, but are recommended for SBR.

Boosted with thiuram or a dithiocarbamate, MBT is popular for quick curing moulded articles. MBT causes only

slight discolouration on exposure to light and also has useful peptising properties. The presence

of stearic acid and zinc oxide is necessary for good cures. Typical dosage varies from 1.0 – 1.5 phr.

Storage and Handling:

Stable indefinitely under normal storage conditions. No special handling precautions are necessary. Normal

precautions to avoid contact with skin and eyes should be followed. For eyes, flush with plenty of water and

seek medical advice.
